Wiring woes

None of the illustrations on the Prestolite site are actually labelled "Schematic".

As i've repeatedly posted links to the image that clearly depicts the alternator terminals, i can only conclude that you are being deliberately obstructive, presumably to cover up the poor advice that you have given in this thread, which would have likely lead to the destruction of the OPs alternator.

FYI ; Schematic - Wikipedia

It is time for Vic and Paul to agree to differ.
The online bickering is entertaining in its own way; but in these times we need love and compassion.
You both have knowledge of boat electrics and I admire your spirit of trying to help others, Personaly you will not find me offer advice on a public forum and I suspect this is true of many skilled and trained professionals.
If Picasso blows up his alternator because he misunderstands you’re advice it is sad ; but not worth falling out over.

You are absolutely correct, there is a glaring lack of industry pros posting on here, because whenever you post something, an amateur or two will come along and try to correct you.

I often wonder why i bother.

I posted the correct information, from the manufacturer of the alternator, way back in post #7, here we are at post #44

I have only a basic knowledge of boat electrics and find it confusing when two experts disagree. They can't both be right but I haven't got the knowledge to decide which one is.

I will follow the manufacturer diagram. The issue was a combimation of my stupidity in not making a note of where the wires were prior to removing the alternator, limits to my own knowledge, and poor markings on the unit itself.

I've found many of the comments helpful and I tend to post to let you know how I get on when I her a chance to rewire it, but like many of us I don't know when that will be given current circumstances.

I'm happy that good people answered, and I hope your posts will have helped me resolve this issue

Many thanks all

Yay!! everything works, thank you PaulRainbow for posting that prestolite diagram. Very helpful indeed.

I've learned a lot about alternators, and engine wiring systems.
