Wiring raymarine

I am about to rewire my boat and during that I will replace the old instruments with raymarine. It's a bit of a mixed bag. St60+ tridata, St60+ wind, St60 multi and a rl70rc. So I have questions!

1. How is power introduced to the instruments? Is it just a matter of bringing in power to the St60 multi that is down at the chart table and then the power for the other St60+'s will get to them via seatalk? Or could it be introducedvia the radar/plotters and is that carried even when the plotter is off? Or am I way off mark and I need to buy yet another raymarine box to bring power to the instruments?

2. Both the rl70rc and the st60 have nmea in and out. Current I have a gaming gps will that work ok or do I need to get a raymarine seatalk gps receiver? Doesbthe St60 multi translate the nmea in over to the seatalk circuit?

3. I need to temporarily power up the tridata to give me depth to move the boat. Do I need to buy the raymarine power cable or can i get away with wiring the red 12+ and the grey gnd with a 3a trip? If I ultimately power up the completed system via power in to the St60 multi then I won't be out of pocket buying the raymarine power cable.

In the manuals it says power is normally introduced via the autohelm but I don't have or need that. Happy with a standalone tiller pilot and windvane.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

When you say you are going to replace the old instruments with Raymarine have you bought the Raymarine instruments yet?
If not then don't buy ST60 instruments but i50, i60 instead.
If you already have the Raymarine instruments then daisy chain the ST60 instruments together with Seatalk and then connect power to the red and black at some point in the Seatalk network. Nothing special about adding the power in. As you say "Normally powered via the Course computer but not needed in your case."
Radar and plotters cannot be powered by Seatalk but need their own power source.
Plotters also don't provide power to the Seatalk bus.

I don't believe the ST60 will bridge the NMEA GPS position info onto the Seatalk bus. But I don't see how you would need to as that info can be passed via NMEA.

Thanks I was pretty sure that the plotter didn't provide power to the seatalk bus.

Yes I should have said I already have all the st60, st60+ had them for a while just finally getting around to installing them. It was a bit of a deal.

Just to clarify, power in to the seatalk, raymarine cable or can I just get away in the sort term (I need to move my boat in the next couple of days with 12v+ on the red and the gnd on the grey? Seatalk on my units has 3 connections red, grey and yellow.

Maybe I am getting confused I have a lot of things to keep track on relating to the boat. I guess my nmea > seatalk question is related to displaying SOG on the tridata unit. How will that work?

Thanks again

Tom

Just apply power to the red and grey. The yellow is the data wire. No need for a special cable.

The NMEA GPS info into the ST60 will generate SOG over the Seatalk network.

Talulah,

Great I am not a complete numpty then. I thought thats how it works but Raymarine's manuals and website don't make it very clear. Thanks for clearing that up.

Nigel,

In the final install it will go. 12v - St60 multi - St60+ wind - St60+ tri - radar/plotter - 12v

For temporary to make 18nm trip i am just powering up the tridata for depth.
