Further to my water tank sender post, the mechanical bits have now arrived.

The instructions are "translated" (well vaguely) Italian. Example: Not cut and atricke the rod of sender.
Or: Conect points -,+,S,L. Conect + to 12v DC circuit that is activated by the ignition switch. Conect the point L to positive instrument lighting circuit.

And so on.

From the diagram, the gauge and sender should apparently be joined by the "brown" lead and the negative by the "blue" lead and a further terminal by "yellow-green"

The only wire that arrived is with the sender; a sealed at the sender, 2-strand flex, that is dark blue and black.

Confusion reigns!

Afraid I can't help you, but it does highlight the Italians' singular ability to mangle english in manuals/instructions. I suspect every Italian who can translate "good morning" considers himself capable of knocking off one before lunch. When Ducati returned to the UK market in the late 80s, one of their importers pleaded with the factory to produce the owner's handbook in Imperial as well as metric. Ducati obliged, including the gem that the fuel tank held something like 0.456 cubic feet.

I imagine that the sender will simply be a variable resistance across the two wires. One side (either) will go to the "signal" terminal on the gauge and the other to either +12v or 0v - afraid I'm not sure which but it depends on the gauge rather than the sender as such.

check that the sender has NO internal earth fitted, if not then S&L will be the sender connections , maybe this will help

When I replaced the old lever type transducer with an Osculati one last year I simply connected the blue of the sender to the red of the boat and the blacks together. Worked perfectly well.

Ace!

It doesn't help, does it, when the diagram is different from the contents of the pack! To add to the mangled translation!

I will report back in due course.

The Osculati sender unit has a jumper wire. When you find the correct combination of wires to senders, it may read back to front. If it does, snip the jumper wire to convert it to EU spec. The two wires to the sender are just measuring the resistance so the connections to the gauge will be neg in, pos in, pos to the sender and either piggy back the other sender wire to the pos or neg, cant remember which. You cant break it, just try and see. I had the same problem except I didnt even have instructions.

I have just thrown this osculati **** (ex factory installed )out, it was connected to a digital gauge and worked as reliable as a Lancia. The readings were erroneous and did never reflect the content of the freshwater tank.
I was told that this was my fault as I used antibacterrial additive fluid to keep my water fresh and safe.

It might work for cheap camper cars but not for a serious yacht. I am using noow a Phlippi Systems.

I bought mine on the recommendation of the very experienced engineer at Leros marina. He tells me they use the Osculati gauges for all sorts of fluids and have never had a problem in hundreds of installations.

Update on wiring diagram - from the UK Agent.

Cable 1. Red/white Instr light
Cable 2. Red Pos.power
Cable 3. Blue Neg Power
Cable 4. Black Sensor

As there no other wires supplied, the instrument light and power cables will be for me to find and bring to the instrument
The Blue and Black cables will come from the sender unit.

The back of the instrument does have some markings that seem to show what is lights and what is power.

So when the weather clears, I'll give it a go.

I was going to replace all gauges with matching Wema units but just when I was ready to do that the Osculati sender failed so I replaced the lot. It was about three years old.
