Wiring a Garmin GPSMap 750

I am considering mounting a Garmin GPSMap 750 into a washboard, for easy removal.

Is it OK to wire the unit to a cigarette lighter plug and socket to make removal even easier?

Probably not a cig lighter but some more secure and waterproof connection would be OK.
