I am just installing a Waeco CR65 fridge and wondered if any of you knew what wire size I should use and also whether the supply should be direct (fused) from the battery or from the fuse box which is at the helm?

If not, anyone know of a wire size calculator on line or in a book?

How come that thread didn't come up when I searched for wire size? The wonders of technology!

Thank you Vic thats exactly what I was after.

[/ QUOTE ] Because the expression "wire size" does not appear anywhere in the thread. If you had done a search for "wire sizing" you'd have found it.

I knew it existed of course as I remembered contributing to it so i just ran back through my old posts until I found it.

Trouble now is you've got several calculators and you'll probably get several different answers!

Foget the wire table.
It is very well described in the installation section of your manual. It has been written for a reason….
Most people think they can get can use a smaller wire size as specified. I can insure you that the compressor will not even start.

Reason: At start the processor draws a high current for a few milliseconds and measures the voltage drop. If too high it assumes the battery is flat and the system doesn’t start……
Many electricians think it is not necessary to follow the instructions (overrated wire size), but they do not understand the reason. (Tunnel view)

Just wire it to the specs which are in your manual…..If I remember it was 4mm square.

I have seen a few cool boxes which didn’t work for this reason

Or some use the switch panel and here again it doesn’t work -1, 5 mm to panel-fuse-switch etc….voltage drop too large……
