Hi i have two seperate wiper motors fitted to my boat on two seperate switches, they are made by ROCA and are self parking, i want to wire them onto one switch but i am told this is not possible due to self parking confusing both motors? also how do i test if they are single or twin speed at the moment they are wired onto simple on/off switches? have heard i could buy a wiper control panel but they are for twin speed wiper motors only ??? many thanks stu at a loss very confused

I guess you could use a two pole rocker switch. It's like two switches in one case. Often used to break the live as well as neutral. Just use it on the live for each.

I think cars have just one motor with mechanical rods across to the second arm, so they dont have the problem with the self parking.

I am sure you can do something a lot smarter, but going from the statement that they are wired into two simple on/off switches now, going to a switch with two poles would/shlould do the same as now but with one plastic rocker rather than two.

I was too quick with the original post.

I have messed about with wiper motors in the past that had a permanent live that allowed the motor to self park on its own. If the motors being used are this style then you should be able to control both the slow and fast speed from a single three position switch (off, slow,fast).

You would need to find out how the current motors are wired. If they self park and if the wiring goes straight from the switch to the motor then there is no relay involved hence it must be a motor with built in self parking.

From the info above I would say that at least the modern ROCA have built in self parking and can be controlled from a single switch. After checking the wiring as mentioned above just parallel up the connections.

Have a look at this info and the wiring and switch. If this is your motor a twin pole 3 position switch may do the job

Not sure of your type of boat but best to have separate switches.
If you find any rough waves the wiper blades can get washed off.
That leaves the metal rod scratching the glass.
If one wiper blade was washed off or wiper motor faulty it would be useful to have one at least.
Not like a car where you can pull over at the next garage or phone the AA.
