Further to my winterisation thread i have desided im going to do a full service and winterise:eek:

Now where can i find out how much oil and lubes and what types makes i need?

Can you just check that im on the right lines. For a mercruiser 3.0

Shopping list;
Fuel stablaiser
Quick Silver 4 cycle SAE 40
oil drain pump
Oil filter
Quick Silver engine oil suppliment
Fogging oil
Some greese for the prop and other bits and bobs
Quick Silver perfect seal for tightening all the nuts back up.

Flush engine through with fresh water for 20 mins
Drain oil and fit new filter and oil
restart engine and allow to warm up, check oil level
Remove air filter and spray fogging oil into carb untill engine stalls
Replace air filter
Loosen belts, oil pullys
drain fresh water (where is the drain plug for this? looking at the manula its in the 'engine bay' so all the water drains into the bit under the engine?)
Remove prop and greese

No this part im stuck on

Drain the lube from the leg, check for water (how?) check impeller, refill with new lube.

Engine now serviced, safe over winter and almost ready to fire up in the spring.

if the gearbox oil is contaminated with water it will show in 1 of 2 ways, if the boat hasn't been used for a long time, when you remove the drain plug water will come out before the oil, or the oil will be emulsified, look milky.if either of these investigate how you have water ingress, shaft seals, o rings etc.

hope this is of use.

as epervier said water in the gearbox oil will show up as either emulsified gear oil or water draining out first from the lower drain plug.

you will need (want) to replace with Quicksilver High Performance Gear Oil and the manual will explain how to get it in, and how much/when it's full etc.

good practice to replace the 2 drain plug washers

The technical term is RTFM. :D Its all in there.

If you want to check the impeller, you have to drop the bottom of the leg - if you are going to do that you may as well replace the impeller, which I would recommend doing anyway on a new to you boat.
