i did a quick search for any other relevant posts, but didn't find anything so...
can anyone recommend a safe, secure, cheap place for laying up a boat for winter in majorca or menorca, preferably with travel lift and yard.
if you have any places you would definitely avoid...please let me know that too.
are there any places that you can work and/or live on boat in the yard? i know the junta marinas in andalucia don't allow you stay aboard but do allow you to work on your bpat and everyone thinks this is an andalucian rule, but there are lots of liveaboards at Gelves nr Seville in the yard.

thanks

I found it was really difficult to lay up ashore in those islands.. Land prices at a premium I suspect. Oddly I got an excellent deal at the Real Cub Nautico in Palama Mallorca. The very big marina on the right as you go in.

Although in summer the prices are high in winter it is much more reasonable. Lots of Liveaboards wintering there and a safe place to leave the boat laid up afloat.

I'm afraid you'll find trying to winter out of the water, on the hard is a very expensive business anywhere in the Med - until you get to Turkey.

I found prices and pressure on space far higher on Mallorca than on Menorca, if that's any help.

After 6 years in the Med I'm resigned to just having the boat out of the water during the 2 summer months when I come back to the UK. Costs then are about 25% of those between October and May.

Echo what both previous respondants are saying. Shortage of space on the isalands means they really don't want to see boats hauled out - hence as high or higher prices on hard than in a berth.
Pier 46 if booked well in advance is cheaper than Real Club Nautico for a winter stopover - but overall RCN beats all others for security / facilities etc.

I'm writing at anchor by Isla Cuarantina in Mahon, Menorca, waiting for decent weather for getting back to the Spanish mainland. It's very windy here. There is a wind farm just overlooking Mahon and I don't suppose they built it there on the off chance that it might be very windy /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I believe that another word for Menorca is 'The windy Isle' in some language or another. I'm not a local expert by any means, but from what I have seen on Ibiza, Majorca and Minorca, I would go for Majorca if I wanted to winter here (which I don't, we are going back to the mainland).

The marina in Formentara (east of Ibiza) is meant to be cheap out of season. A Guy I met in Porto Christo, stayed there 2 winters ago and paid 4 euro aday fully serviced. They will haul you out for only 1 week to do the bottom then back on the berth she goes. But if your retired or on a live aboard, why not stay?

The marina in S'Arenal, Majorca. is very secure, they may have you ashore for winter but they are a touch expensive. The town is fairly cheap. There are alot of ex-pats in the marina and there maybe work availible. The facitilies are excellent.
Hope this Helps.
