Wintering in Corsica

We are hoping to winter our boat in Port Calvi this coming September for 8 Months. Has anyone spent time at this port and have useful information for us, also means of transport available back to the UK ? Looking forward to any replies

I've no experience of Calvi but if you do a search for Calvi there's a report from Hurricane who went there last sumer or the one before, lots of nice photos and a really good post.

I left my boat for two winters in Campoloro on the east coast.
And others have used Solenzara. Maybe cheaper than the west coast ,
but the natives weren't that friendly esp in Campoloro which is dead
outside the mad six weeks.
Have you considered Alghero in Sardinia, you'll have more company there.

I would second Alghero-woderful/friendly and most of all NOT EXPENSIVE.

We lived and kept our boat in Calvi for 10 years. The marina is not protected from the NW (the direction of the Mistral), and if you are not on hand to keep a eye on her frankly I would run a mile. We have seen a lot of boats get damaged. Transport is expensive and infrequent, especially in the winter. If you are stuck on Corse as a destination, see if you can get into Bastia.

We wintered afloat one winter at Bastia, Port Toga. winds can be very fierce and we took more precautions than we normally would but all was well. Harbourmaster was very helpful. Airport about 20 minutes away and you can walk to the ferry terminal.
