Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum, very nice to meet all of you (virtually).

I have been trying to find something specific to this issue in previous forum threads but I could not find anything precisely explaining what I am going to ask, so here is my post, hopefully it may be of interest to other new boat owners:

my sailboat is powered by an auxiliary Yanmar YSB 8, and I live in Scandinavia (- zero degrees celsius coming soon), and I want to keep the boat in the water this winter (next year I will move it to the Med).

Assuming I am going to use the boat and its engine occasionally this winter, at least 2-3 times a month, would you recommend doing anything special for the maintenance of the engine, aside from using the proper SAE W oil grade for this climate?

For example, since the engine is water marine cooled, I don't see the point of putting antifreeze in the cooling pipes, as it would end up in the sea the first time I use the engine (unless I misunderstood how marine water cooling works, I am new to this type of engine).

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
