Winter Sailing...

Most important thing, is to first of all, make sure the window wipers are working and switch the heating on. If it's still cold, close the patio doors and crank the heating up.

Put the kettle on and drink bovril just to remind you it's winter. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I sail through the winter and love it, some things that I have learnt,
take some old towels, the ice melts and the seats and decks are wet for hours if not wiped.

Take blankets, Ive spent hours stuck in the mud waiting for the tide to lift me, and it was colder than you can possibly
imagine

Constant supply of hot drinks,
Extra sticky plasters and dressings, cold fingers have more little accidents, and the cold skin seems to cut open so much easier.

Lots of spare gloves, your hands will freeze even on a sunny winters day with your coat off.
Most of all, enjoy the solitude! (and wave to me)

Clothing?

Performance layered clothing is the key, bursts of activity followed by a long sit down need quality gear to keep you warm. Get a good hat and take yourshades, you will be sailing while the sun is low in the sky.

Safety?

You could harness earlier if you wish, sounds sensible. However you are more likely to sail on great days when it is not too rough, so less of a problem. The first time you sail in boistrous conditions that would be OK in the summer, may be the last.

Crew?

When you find out, let us know! I find hot and cold running women make for best crew mates, but mine only runs cold.
