It wasn't apparent to me until recently that out of season moorings were available at some marinas for those that prefer not to have their pride and joy suffer the vagaries of winter frost and occasionally floods.

MDL do offer such a facility - not over publicised - available because many owners take their boats out of the water in the winter and thus mooring spaces become available. In their case October to March inclusive.

You're not stuck away in a corner and have the standard services available to boot.

Probably a bit late in the year to make the point, but the concept is an annual one, so if not of interest this year, maybe next??

and dead handy for that mid winter spur of the moment couple of hours out to remind you that spring is not that far away, even if only up to the lock and back .

Back in October 2003, I did this at Penton Hook.

Not sure if it's the same cost now but back then the six months worked out at half the annual mooring fee for my 29' Mirage. Just make sure you're out by 1st April or MDL will apply their monthly rates .

There's also the possibilty that if you get a nice berth/s, you'll be moved from pillar to post around the marina if the boats that normally occupy the "empty" berths decide to go back in the water within the six months winter package.
