Anyone remember an article on winter sailing the other year? Pyro's persuaded us to take CdG to Ostend this weekend.... with the kids this time.

And yes, I have seen the forecast. Looks better than when we went to Dunkirk exactly 2 years ago when it not only snowed but it blew N'ly 7s on the attempt to get back to Blighty.

Anyone got a courtesy flag we can borrow (or some yellow fabric and I'll run one up)?

Dear Mrs Widow, you'll not be needing a yellow hanky - they stopped that years ago. You will need a tricolor however. I remember handing Sirenia a Dutch courtesy flag and telling him to hang it sideways until he could acquire one from le chandelier.

Wasn't my idea. I suggested a nice weekend in the Lake District. SW etc suggested Ostend. Forecast is looking OK ish. Cold but not gales this time round. 5 YO daughter is also oddly keen.

Judging by my experience, it's something you'll have to get used too

If you need a courtesy flag, there's one on WO, give us a ring (or text) and I'll arrange for the office to let you have the keys.

Cheers - might do that. We ordered one but it might not get here in time.

To clarify matters onthe request for "yellow", there is no shortage of black in the Pyro household, and we have some red and blue left over from frantic bunting antics last year but there is no way we'd knowingly have anything yellow in the house : )

I would suggest that hanging a Dutch flag sideways might not go down too well in Belgium.

Just had a great weekend sailing to Breskens from Chatham..and back.
Bit foggy leaving the medway but beam reach once past the forts.Arrived at 2 in the morning due to later start, cos of Fog.
Brekens harbour master didnt want paying.Good lunch in the yacht club,then left about 5pm .The sail back even better ,coming up thru the estuary at 9 knots, didnt see another sail boat until we were past Queenboro.
Radar AIS and heating invaluable.Go for it .

Gave the Ostend trip a miss in the light of the forecast and the fact that I couldn't get the Webasto working!
