Currently have my boat on the hard in Bari, with a six month Preko contract for next summer. I am looking ahead to winter 2020 for a lay-up, but I am having difficulty finding a yard that: a) allows the owner to work on his own boat (Bari will not allow external work, such as antifoul / anodes by owners) and b) has 12 month access by air from UK. Split and Dubrovnik are players, but I am wary of a nasty seasonal Bora in that part of the world and I am unsure if owner maintenance is permitted. I know the Greek yards at Preveza are reasonable and allow all work, but involve a 4 hour drive from Athens in winter . Has anyone had experience on the hard at Riposto (Sicily), which I am also interested in.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

You've still not had a reply here. I joined the Cruising Association for just this kind of info and haven't yet been disappointed.

Hi,
There is a little boat yard in Rovinj, Istria. Cheap flights to Pula, Zagreb or Trieste. Proper little working boat yard that we have used in the past, with reasonable prices, if is not too far for you now, let me know if you need more details. I have seen few more boat yards and marinas in Istria that you are allowed to do work by yourself, Like Veruda....

Perhaps try Italy, Aprilia marittima. The know how from the Italians is quite ok and you can get every part of your ship. Flights from/to Triest...

One of the marinas in Monfalcone (I've recommended these to forumites in the past: none disappointed and some stayed years!). They offer the cheapest berths in the Adriatic, very secure, plenty of chandlers (the Croatians all come to Trieste to buy spares), good food and Trieste airport is just five minutes away (Ryanair to Stansted). No problems working on your own boat on the hard and plenty of skilled help if required. Plus better food and friendlier people than in Croatia. Try: Ocean, Cadei, Hannibal... Leave out Lepanto which is more of a resort with pool and such. Aprilia (mentioned above) has a good marina but it's further from the airport. More info available if you require it!
