Friends had a Vancouver 36 in Northwich almost 20 years ago. Fun trip through Cheshire down the Weaver into the Ship Canal and then the Mersey via the big locks.

Thanks all - west Manchester (Salford Quays area) . 40ft, heavy boat, good to have a heart there in case I run out of talent, but somewhere not so far that I can pop down at weekends to do some jobs. Been doing the run to hamble for a while now and, pretty fed up with it. Trying to get enough time off from work to bring her up, but every time I get a few days off, the wind is resolutely from the SW! Humph.

Now that Calemax Enterprise, grain barge, no longer goes up to the Manchester dry dock, by Salford Quays, it might be worth a wander over to see if there is any chance of a temporary berth there?

The weaver to Northwich requires a boat safety certificate doesn't it?
Fiddlers Ferry would have been great (bit of a twitchy trip) but they are building a bridge so the Mersey seems a bit impassable at the moment.
You might be able to winter afloat at Spike Island in Widnes?
Liverpool marina is good.
Conwy marina is a lot closer by road than Beaumaris but costs more.

Soon after I got our trailerable sailing boat I decided I wanted to check the drop down keel which involved having it craned off the trailer.

I took it to Jalsea Marine at Northwich http://www.jalsea.co.uk. They had quite a few large boats/small ships there in various states. Ask them, you would also need to check their policy on other contractors working in their yard, what size boats they can accomodate, what cranage they have etc.
