The official Brendan test for winter. Last weekend splashing about in F6, mountainous waves, no problem.

Yesterday headed out from Lymington to Poole for the 2nd Annual Wareham meet (excellent meet by the way, and a good turnout, and the hangover is just about receding to manegable proportions) wearing a fleece and basking in the Autumn summer sun.

This morning however, headed out of Poole for Lymington into a brisk easterly - with several layers of fleece, oilies, and the special test criteria - gloves and balaclava.

That's it, if gloves and woollly hat have to be worn to be comfortable, it's officially winter boating season.

Oh. I think I must have been waiting fot it coming. Off down to Plymouth next weekend. Some one said it was going to snow tomorrow. Will Mucky Farter need the snow plow attachment?? Proposed trip is round to Dartmouth to meet up with Tutts Teaching aquaintances. Start Point on a freezing day does not appeal!! Might take the longer route this time as the scenic route I took last time made an engine fall off.../forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Glad you made it back OK, Brendon. We had an easy run just back to Poole, but heard gale warnings for Poole and Chrstchurch Bays on VHF. Thought of you. It was bloomin cold in that easterly.

Don't know about the snowplough attachment, but you may want to take the icebreaker option. It was pretty parky out there today, not like what I've been used to (and spoiled by) over the past month.

If the past two weekends are anything to go by, scenic route definitely a good bet. Those easterlies seem to be set in for a little while more yet.

The early start was a good idea, as I was back in Lymington before lunch, and conditions no where near as bad as last weekend, though it had definitely blown up overnight, and was still picking up, and certainly wasn't continual planing speed conditions

Interestingly, the roughest/wettest conditions were inside the Solent. Most of the trip seems to have some land protection in an Easterly (North channel was protected and flat, and it was nice to be able to open up for a mile or two), while the East wind just blows straight down the Solent.

It was cold, was on flybrige at 34knots [ not my choise] and now going to find hats, gloves. thermol undies, and bad weather gear. will be dreaming of hot summer days for the next 5 months,

So shorts, sun tops, to back of cuboard and Michelan man gear to front, must see one day who many layers can put on and still move. think my record last year was 4 layers, but had to stand outside or started to cook, only down side!!!

Has anyone tryed these electric hand and feet warmers you see advertised. I would be intrested to know if they work?

Glad trip back was ok Brendan, didn't take me long once I got the engine started, you know I said when I went for the early morning walk this morning, went to check the car and the alarm went off, cat running out from underneath. Well.. I think it must have been going off all night (very popular with the locals I'm sure)off and on cos turned the key, turned over twice and that was it, nothing!!

Fortunately, was on a slope, bit of a push off jumped in and away I went. Good weekend, glad you managed to get out of the shower cabinet in one piece Geoff, that would have been an embarrasing rescue operation!!

It was really nice to meet some of the names on here, and also to hear such respect being given to other members who were not present. Particularly Byron, listening to Barry and Steve (Aztec) talking, they are so knowledgable about engines, I was in awe, which made it all the better to here them giving so much credit to Byron for his wealth of knowledge and experience.

Oops! I thought it was a one off alarm, or we'd have stayed around to make sure it started.

Yes, we should persuade the pair of them to start a trustworthy marine engineering company, then they could earn a fortune, and we could all get our boats serviced by someone we trust. Just an idea, and looking forward to the Studland taxi service next year

Talking of Byron, wonder if we can get him to host another wonderful do at his place? Hint!

I was begining to panic a bit, locked in. Anyone who stays at the Black Bear, Wareham, beware the demon en suite in room 15! Did you notice there wasn't a room 13?

I wonder if Byron knew he was being talked about on Saturday evening. I expect Duncan realised he woud be talked about. Better not mention that/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
