Winter-Electric power fail warning device +

Presumably the "free" ones require a sim card or similar, which is included with c-pod. In which case the cost is there or thereabouts ?
Edit: Still a little more expensive. Does your system offer PIR sensors which I prefer to magnetic hatch switches ?

There are loads of subscription free units that have PIR sensors, wired or wireless. And other sensors, and relay control, etc. You use a PAYG sim card and it's perhaps £20/year or something like that. Mind you I dont know how much the c-pod subscrip ££ is these days - maybe they've brought it down to compete with the subscrip-free units

About a tenner a month, it is a little more, but was the best on offer from the chandlers when I was looking many moons ago, & I just went for the same again on the latest boat as it had worked well. Perhaps a list of those available systems would be an idea for the OP & others. When I bought c-pod I had never heard of this forum

I bought an asda mobile payg sim for my unit - £5. That will last over a year (international sms 8p each). Credit never expires provided one chargeable event occurs at least every three months.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for so much information on GSM systems, now I am more confused than when I started on the best option

For me the main focus is to keep the cost around £100 or less and to help me protect the boat over winter, I'll have to give it some more thought.

I am thinking of getting one of these GSM remote cameras mainly to be set-up to warn me if the electrics go off during the winter. As a bonus it also functions as a security camera (well actually that is the main function). As I understand it, if the power fails it sends a SMS to your phone to alert you.

It seems a good cheap solution and piece of mind on those very cold winter days/nights.

What does everyone else think, anyone got a better solution and do you know of UK supplier, most websites seem to be direct from China.

Here is one example of the many variants available:

I rather like the look of this to send an occasional snap to my phone of the boat so I can keep an eye on things from home, I can't see where it says it will alert you to power failures?

It was from this website where I read about the alert on power failure http://www.logictoyz.com/security-/v900-gsm-camera/v900-a8-gsm-remote-camera.html

BUT, since you asked I doubled checked by email to another supplier and they said this model doesn't send an alert on power failure.

There are others that do (see Sealine fourm) but I think I have to decide whether I want a security camera or an electric alerting device, as someone on here has suggested a mains plug type with temp sensor which is ideal for winter monitoring, but quite expensive.

Do a bit more research is required.

This site appears to be the manufacture: http://www.v900.com.cn/en/Product.asp?id=2

PS. When I did a security search on the logictoyz website, there were some warnings.
