For a few years now I have enthused about winter boating, and it seems I am not alone anymore. great to see some of the posts about it. but it does bring a whole load of things to watch out for that you don't have in summer boating.

slippery foredeck, lovely white boats don't show frost, so if in doubt, do the slippy walk, I use it on pontoons too. now how you execute this is up to your individual style but basically, just slid you feet along the surface in short steps , almost like ice skating.

wear gloves, then no chance of your hands sticking to cold hand rails.

Covers alway shrink in the winter, so if you take them down, put them somewhere warm and they will be easy a to put back on.
but most of all enjoy the winter red faces you get from having fun out there.

And the fishing!! Here we are 5.30 am Sunday 30th Nov in Liverpool Marina. Nephew and son all ready for a day on the Mersey.

I know not everyone's cup of tea but this is winter boating for me.

Totally agree that winter boating brings new challenges............I spent a good 30 mins yesterday morning removing thick frost from the decks before setting off for Cowes..........however it would appear that many other moboer's do not like the challenge............we were the only mobo in the whole of CYH last night!!. Lots of yachties there who made a spectacular effort to get into the festive party mood................at least a dozen yachts covered from deck to masthead in shimmering lights...........coupled with a beautiful full moon rising at around 5.00pm.........it was the place to be!!

Quite right Julie, there have been some beautiful days in December, though I didn't get the memo about the slippery pontoons in time, so I now have a badly scrapped shin.

Eddystone, plus wake from the Rodman...

We also spent a while with what I'm told are short beaked dolphins

Thought I'd spend last Wednesday night at anchor in Jennycliff. My first night 'on the hook' and it was lovely...

...apart from the fact that my gearbox broke just as I was anchoring up and the next morning I had to reverse all the way to Laira! Took me an hour and a half!

I am quite good at reversing now through. :-)

Heck, well done, must have a cricked neck :)

Love to use the boat all year round. I think it stays warmer and has less problems if in constant use. Love the crisp calm seas and the clear views.

As for the cold, well we drive downstairs with the heater on. Saves the covers shrinking ;)

Boat has been used every weekend except the last one, since I got her. Took my parents though the swellies, it was like a mill pond! We arrived exactly two hours before liverpool high water. I even cut through the swatch, was a beautiful calm day

yep, can't beat a bit of winter boating, took a run up beaulieu river, nice with a cup of hot chololate in hand as we cruised along great!!!!

better boating as not a lot get out on the water in winter. and have some of the calmest waters to boot. Bring it on !!!
