I keep my boat on a mooring in Portsmouth harbour, but have been wondering about the possibility of moving onto a marina pontoon for the winter months - Nov - Mar p'haps?

I wondered; does anyone do this? I will start ringing round marinas, but thought first to check here in case anyone has some sage advice!

Thanks

H

My boat spends the summer on a mooring and the winter in a marina. I prefer moorings to marinas but in the winter with short daylight hours it makes more sense to be in the marina -- plus shore power etc.
I sail year round and there are quite a number of days when the weather is actually better than some summer days.
Go for it !

Hasler do a winter special at very reasonable rates. If you are planning to sail all year round it makes a great deal of sense, especially for day sails. When I first started keeping my boat at Hasler I think I paid about £500 for the special (back in 2003), until my permenant berth became available. Hasler is a great location for winter type sailing, you can cast off and be in the Solent in 15 minutes.

Thank you both for your messages. Very useful. It gives me the confidence to sail year round, and enjoy those gorgeous clear days mid-winter.

Andy, I am currently moored just off Fleetlands, nr Fareham, so Haslar would be about perfect. I will give them a call/check online, and see what they are offering.

Best wishes

Julian
