The Saffier 32ft. (ok, joint winner)

Story

What does the panel think of this boat? Is this a critics/judges response to trends in AWB design?

Is it significant that a Dutch boat wins the award at the Amsterdam Boat show? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But even on their website there's not much real info to go on... no underwater pics or line drawings, no real in depth specs.... so apart from saying that she certainly looks pleasent enough in the pics, it's hard to judge her..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Is that a fair comment?

The first of the boat tests linked from their website has much more detail including a drawing which reveals a fin keel with bulb, a saildrive and a spade rudder. The interior plan reveals a crosswise double bunk under the cockpit, and a fairly small saloon to allow for a reasonable forecabin. Basic price in Holland is €123,500 and a "standaard luxeprijs" of €145,000 both including tax. I cannot translate the specification but it looks likely that it would cost over £100,000 to get one fully equipped, which is a quite a lot for a 32 footer. I have to say that it does look pretty good and the magazine review only seems to have found a couple of bad points and plenty of good ones.

Interesting looking but so far as you can tell from the pics, still seems to have rather overblown topsides. Perhaps still pandering too much to the caravan market? But you can't really tell from 3 pics!

It was either that or Radar Love..........

Ah! as they say BBMs......

All in the past. Chucked smoking two weeks ago.....

I think the Contessa drawing has been squashed up sideways in Photogshop from the original lines at some point. Don't have the original drawings to hand, but the hull is a bit more sleek than the drawing shows!

The Contessa length/beam ratio looks ok. She is in fact rather beamier than the side elevation often suggests. The Jeanneau needs beefing up, I think. I rather like the Dutch boat, but would prefer an encapsulated keel and no oval ports thanks.

Yup the plan from above looks about right. I suspect it may partly be an optical illusion - the original design waterline is quite a way below where in reality they sit in the water (design draft is I think 1.65m, but the reality is more like 1.9m), so the drawing gives the impression of higher topsides than in practise.

I wonder if practise has changed in this respect to give line drawings to show the yacht loaded - more flattering to yachts with high topsides?

Looks like quite a nice boat in a tubby way - I suspect if you sailed them back to back you might find out why the Elan340 is the European Yacht of the Year in this size range and this is the Clog of the year. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
