2boats spotted in Cowes this weekend with wing mirrors!, seriously. (Regal 2150)
Whats next - indicators?"...............maybe not a bad idea

Rearview mirror confession

One of the first things I added when I got our first boat - a 14' Fletcher Arrowflyte - was a large ski mirror. Quite funny as we don't water ski or tow toys etc. I simply couldn't get used to the lack or rear visibility and the need to keep twisting around! :o

I have to say that I've found very useful when pootling* along a river and also means you get more chance to admire the wake when out on the sea. :D

(*I think this term might be Hurricane's copyright - so all owner's rights acknowledged ;))

Have to say I've often thought it would be good to have some sort of rear view mirrors. Makes sense to me tbh.

My old man used to have a Regal and I was forever borrowing it down in Poole harbour to go wakeboarding. The mirrors really do help to see when someone's had an off without having to turn around and still focus on where you're going etc.

Brilliant! :D:D:D

They don't work on the water though ;). Just when on the trailer and you plug in the special cable that goes to the trailerboard, and also to a socket in the boat, so when the tow car brakes, the high level brake light on the boat as well as the trailerboard comes on.

Now you've gone and spoilt the image I had of asking someone to 'step back and check the brake lights are working please...' (mid channel of course! ;))

You can still do that if you want - in fact it would be easy to set up a switch to power the light from the 12v boat system, which could be fun! :D

Since the beginning of steering wheels on boats the yankees tried to make the layout as car-like as possible, to appeal to the masses.
Hence putting the steering at the left and even "column fitted levers" (like the then common gear selector stick in cars) and a horn ring in the wheel.

Wing mirrors may give you some view backwards, but the purpose made versions are better, if boat design permits a central fit

I,ve often thought this was a good idea, after 30yrs of HGV driving I suffer withdrawal symptons. Anyway I will now fit to my Fairline Mirage and appreciate all the talent on the tow path as I pass by.
