Last weekend at Bembridge I got talking to a Windy 32 owner, and I was surprised to hear him tell me his boat does around 4.5mpg at 24knots from his twin engines. I don't know what engines he had, but can a Windy 32 manage such good mpg?

Windy have done this tests themselves.

2*KAD 300

2*D4 260

These test indicates 1.5-1.6 litre pr nm or 2.8 nautical miles pr gallon.

Maybe you have seen numbers pr engine? Then the consumption is 1.9 litre pr Nm which is close to windys original numbers. Remember the new boat performance will only get worse. 2.4 nm/gallon mihgt be the number.

Probably the same as car figures, but I have never managed to actually achieve the Windy stats, though the boats do seem frugal.
I wonder over what distance he calulated those figures, and what engines he has. Some 32s were fitted with some pretty small engines.

MBY have just tested a Khamsin 35 at just under 2mpg at 30 knots which seemed pretty good to me, albeit that it would still not be likely to translate to 4.5 at 24 knots on a slightly smaller boat.

4.5mpg at 24knots ... can a Windy 32 manage such good mpg?
Short answer, no way.
Mind, I never tried one, but I would happily subscribe a gamble: if such boat achieves a similar results, the owner gets my house. If not, I get the boat.
Which is indeed nice, btw. I wouldn't mind using her around here for a while! :D

Thanks for that, it would seem too good to be true, unless he had KAD32 which may be possible per engine.

Some were indeed fitted with 32s.
My Khamsin 34 averages about 2.3lpm, and thats over about 1000 miles of cruising, varying winds, tides, loads; hard to give an average speed, but maybe 27 knots. That's properly underway, not pontoon, rivers etc.
That's somewhat higher than the Volvo tests, but isnt it always so.

Odd, I wouldn't have marked a Windy Scirocco down as a river boat. :D

Yea, but you know how some flybridge owners have performance figures (GPH) even more amazing than JTB battery outputs, until it turns out they are only drifting down the river.
Actually Scirocco with 32s is about a river boat !!
