"To confirm the 27th Windsor Triathlon will take place on Sunday 18th June and the swim course will as usual be taking place over the same section of river with the same event timings, and movement restrictions will once again apply from 06.00 – 09.45 on the stretch of river.

This year the courses and management of the river will remain the same as the last 2 years, in that instead of a full river restriction that we had prior to 2015 we will instead be using 3/4’s and will put in place a one way channel on the Eton side of the river for boats to use to get between Boveney & Romney locks. This will be managed from both of the locks and will only be 1 way at any one time, starting at each lock as required, so boats wishing to use it should plan in additional time for their journey to ensure that any waiting does not delay their anticipated overall progress time for their journey.

The footprint of the swim course occurs between the A322 Bridge and the Eton foot bridge, with the start being outside the leisure centre. At the Eton foot bridge the swimmers will turn on the Windsor side of the river to allow the boats to go through the central arch. The channel will be well marked and will be laid out to ensure that boats can approach the arch straight on to ensure that they can get through it without issue.

Both the swim course and the boat channel will be clearly marked out / demarcated, all boats that wish to use the boat channel will need to be escorted by our water safety team from one end to the other to ensure the safety of those in the water. The water safety team working on the event are extremely professional and experienced and will ensure through the resource on the river that swimmers do not stray into the boat channel.

Please be aware that once again there will also be some mooring restrictions along some sections of the course (& out into the river i.e. when boats sometimes moor 2-3 out) which will come into force from the evening before to ensure that for example; that the medical evacuation point from the river is clear for access for the medical team, that both the swim course & the boat channel can fit safely in the river, and for the general safety of all. We liaise with the mooring management about these mooring restrictions for both the Windsor & Eton sides."

I don't suppose they have to pay to cycle on the roads either. These are social as well as athletic events and surely we wish to encourage people to take part. The river is there to be enjoyed by everyone.

+1

Even if the EA did charge for these sort of events its not going to make much of a dent in the millions shortfall.

Every little helps Chris - as Tescos says! The organisers of these event are commercial enterprises and the income is substantial. The Windsor Triathlon is expecting 3000 competitors with an individual entry fee of £99 (more for some classes) so a turnover for the event of over £300,000. They could well afford to make some contribution to the general funding of the river, particularly as other river users suffer significant restrictions during the events.
