Windsor Castle Turbine

Do small craft get that far up river?

You can't be serious...

Cheeky.

Just because you have a bottomless pit underneath you on the Fal.

(in case you are serious, I'm 20tons and can navigate right up to the orifice of said turbine(s).

Not knowing anything about the upper reaches of your river, I assume a means of getting past it being incorporated, also how far up can you get?

There are locks on the River all the way up to Lechlade Looky here for a starter.

The turbines are all in the weir streams where most folk fear to tread, but many of them are wide and navigable up to the head gear 'cos that's how EA contractors get to effect repairs.

most locks (they vary) are about 33m long by 4.5m wide.
Official navigable depth varies as you go upstream from 2.0m at teddington to 0.9m at Lechlade

Bridges are a bit more problematic up to about 3.51m for most folk.

More details here

Not very suitable for raggies but OK for most motorboats. It depends on what sort of Cheverton you have .

Thanks for the info link. Tis a part of the country I no longer have to go to,hence lack of local no-how. all of my river trips commenced and finished in the Royal docks when deep sea and unfortunately the E?R didnt have portholes, hence my ignorance on this river.
