Ive got a wiper on my wheelhouse but it is either on or off. I want to fit an intermitant wipe facility and was going to trot over to Maplins to see what they have got.

Any one got any idea what I should be asking for? Also any further suggestions for instalation welcome

Thanks Nick

Thanks for the replies

Ive just been to Maplins and bought an " intermittant wiper switch" for 14 quid looks to do the job.

David; why would I have to have a self parking motor? I would expect it to just stop the wiper when the switch breaks the circuit. Its always in the way anyhow so its not as important as it would be on a car.... Or am I missing something here?

Thanks and regds Nick

Nick, if you're comfortable with it stopping where it fancies then it may work for you, but many of the kits are designed for the 3 wire system used on self parkers and will not work at all on a simple feed and return circuit. Hope the Maplin one does.

Most of these devices use a switch (relay etc.) to pulse closed the parking switch
contacts on the wiper motor. This starts the wiper moving and then the parking switch circuit keeps the wiper moving until the wiper parks again.
All that will probably happen on a non parking wiper is that you'll see the wiper move whilst the timer contacts close and as soon as the contacts open the wiper will stop.
