Windows in hull

They may have solved the issue now but Hanse had a problem ( or at least the owners did) with windows in hulls poping out.
One boat reported taking on over a ton of water before they realised the problem
I would feel concerned about buying them in a new model as I would like to know they worked first

I've got 5 of them in my boat. They're "Moonlight" portlights, made in Denmark by BSI (one of the most respected manufacturers of hatches and portlights), and fitted by Bavaria (who know how to assemble boats properly). I'm not worried in the least.

I don't know. I am in two minds. The light and view down below would be nice but then it takes up space, slightly spoils a fair hull and seems a weak point to me. I am thinking about a 45 foot go anywhere, including high latitudes, boat.

One of our windows is in the galley over the hob. My wife likes to feed the swans bread and they have got used to it. One morning a few months ago I dragged myself out of bed to make a cup of tea and was standing half asleep waiting for the kettle to boil when I heard an insistent knocking - looked out and found a white feathery face looking in!

I wonder how much work has been done on similar phenomena in GRP?

Loads. Stress concentration, fatigue and fast fracture are all well understood now. Resistance to cracking is called "fracture toughness", and if you google "fracture toughness GRP" you'll find lots of good stuff on it
