Run xp on this wee machine and in the last 4 days it has downloaded an up date (critical) 5 times. it is the media player one numbered KB 828026. How do I stop it carrying on doing it or do I wait until my hard drive is full?
Thanks, Mike

Mike,

The full description of this update (which isn't critical) can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b47fa121-6c38-4152-9b19-fa40b45a1042&displaylang=en and install that (though the update in KB828026 also applies to the latest version of the player).

You might also want to try modifying the way WinXP handles updates, it sounds like you're configured to automatically install updates. If you click on Settings, then Control Panel, then System you'll get the System Properties dialog box. Click on the Automatic Updates tab, you can then choose how you want Windows to manage updates.

Tony,
Many thanks, was on auto but now manual. Will also check on the website. I guess when you see "Critical" you- me- panic and download it straight away.
