Windlass Problem

Got a mate with a Sealine 290 – windlass seems to have packed up.

When you press the switches the solenoids click and you can see them move. But no noise or action from the motor. Checked the volts etc – power ok to the switches but nothing on the HT side of the solenoids – take it he needs new ones ?

The other check we were going to do was to bypass the solenoids altogether and just connect 12v to the motor to check it – take it that won’t do any damage and that the three wires are neutral and the two positives for forward and reverse action?

Had a similar problem on a Sealine 240. The solenoids are a quite exposed two pot on a plate affair.
I replaced the unit with the latest solenoids which come in a sealed sealed unit. If your mate needs any further info, I'm sure that I can dig up the old paperwork.

sounds like the same thing to me - these are a bit rusty and the little bracket holging them on is all rusted through - his is an Italian make cima Milano or something like that - any idea other than Sealine or Keyparts?

Having said I can put my hands on the paperwork, I must have passed all the stuff on when I sold the boat. I seem to remember buying the new solenoid from Sealine and it was not cheap. You could try the windlass manufacturers.
