I'd start by calling a couple of the boat yards, Shepherds, Aquatics, Windermere Lake Cruises etc, see what they say, they may be able to lift it for you.

Many yards with their own lifting facilities have a policy of not allowing HIABs to do their own lifting. However if a yard cannot lift the boat there is no reason why they should not allow it, provided it is properly insured. For example I investigated transporting a boat to a yacht club in Wales that did not have suitable cranage on site and they were quite happy for the truck to use its own HIAB. However at this end the yard insisted on using its own crane to load.

We had our boat transported from Port Edgar to the Black Isle, Lifted at both ends by the hiab. PE had no issue with this (which is good because we were led to understand you needed to book their travel hoist well in advance)

Weight of the boat could be an issue ? We don’t know the weight of the OP’s boat but it is significantly bigger than i believe yours is. And weight goes up roughly by the cube of the length (though clearly this only applies to similar boat types).

I was assuming the OP has identified a transport company that is happy to lift his boat, and he was just asking if the yards on Windermere would be happy with the transport company doing the lift or would they insist on doing the lift with their own crane.

I was merely saying that Port Edgar were happy for the transport company to do the lift so not all yards will insist on them doing it.

" a wagon with a crane" sounds like a large truck with HIAB or hydraulic crane attached. The 28 ft boat will be quite a few tonnes. The limit of the HIAB will depend not just on total weight but extent it must reach out to lift the boat and the ability to get stabilising pads out. So a bit technical to do it safely. Hence operator will need a licence and insurance. Sounds doubtful to me. ol'will

Common enough to use HIAB flatbed for boats around here, usually just lift and drop, to minimise reach. But yards can be sticky, it’s their H+S after all.
