There is a Boat Rally this Saturday, 14th August, on Windermere to protest about the 10mph speed limit.

For detail please see www.waf.uk.com

I am not sure if it will do any good, but the more boats the better.

Regards

I'll be there - on my windsurfer. We have no speed limits cos we make no noise and no pollution.

You should just learn to accept that if you want to make noise and pollute you should pay for it. Why should you have fun at other's annoyance?

<<Why should you have fun at other's annoyance?>>

Are you proposing a ban on windsurfers in the Solent in a roundabout way then ?

I won't be there because I let the registration on my little fishing boat lapse. I'd resigned myself to the fact that fishing during the day was a miserable experience bacause of the morons. I even shrugged it off when two idiots nearly hit me, water skiing in the dark. The last straw though was when I was fishing on a beautiful peaceful morning, flat calm lake, could even hear the birds singing and then some total t*sser comes barefoot water skiing right next to me, even though he had the whole lake to choose from, at 6 o'clock in the morning! Just irresponsible kids you say, us serious water skiers wouldn't do that - yeah well I might buy that if plastered down the side of the boat it hadn't said "Low Wood Water Ski School".
Personally, I can't wait until next April, my registration form will be in the post the next day.

Seems like you have opened a can of the proverbial worms with this one James !!
But strange is it not that these types of replies are from users with no "profile" to speak of ?

I hope I accidentally run over your board! We do pay for it, we do use it and we are responsible! Stick to what you know which is clearly very little!

Have fun under your rock,

Paul

Please could you expand on your comments.

"if you want to make noise and pollute you should pay for it."
"Why should you have fun at other's annoyance?"

I dont expect a reply because we both know you are unable to back them up.

I am not defending skiing to close to a any small boat, but as always there are two sides to every story.

Does your small fishing boat have lights? and why let a couple of small encounters ruin you whole enjoyment of the lake?

There are idiot that use the lake, there are idiot everywhere in life. The majority of users are sensiable people that abide by the rules and enjoy there boating.

Next April there will still be idiots that use the lake, they my be in big sailing boats instead of power but they will still be there.

As a skiier I do see some terrible boat handling and there is no excuse for that poor minority. However last Saturday night on returning from the fireworks I opened the boat up (outside the Limit) prior to going back to my berth and nearly ran over a Fishing boat with no lights on. There are always 2 sides to the story and as long as we converse there should be no problems.

Regards

Paul

While not condoning any reckless behaviour, you could have been happily fishing on any number of lakes in the lake district, from April us skiers unfortunatly do not have any lakes left to use . Calm flat water is required for barefoot skiing and so is a min of 36mph it extremly excillerating you should try it.

Yes, I did have a single white light on the cabin roof, maybe that's what attracted them to me.
Personally, I never had any problem at all with the sailing boats. At the prime fishing times they are usually tucked up in bed. The rest of the time they are looking for wind and we are trying to get out of it so we rarely clash. ALL the problems I've ever had with boats, on Windermere and Loch Lomond, have been with water skiers and jetskiers. Jetskiers being far worse, since they will go into shallow bays or rivers in search of someone to bug. (I think half your problems come from not dissassociating yourselves from those prats)
I've also never had any problem with what I call the "gin palace" power boats (wish I could afford one) and it is a bit of a shame that they are also going to suffer for other peoples irresponsible behaviour.
(Incidentally, I was speaking to a warden at Loch Lomond a few years ago and he said that if hordes of English power boats move up there when the Windermere limit kicks in they will probably extend the speed limit there to cover a much bigger area as well.)

A by-law of the Lake says that you cant restrict the type or number of boats on the lake. So banning 1 type of craft was not an option hence they had to apply it to all craft.
