I’ve recently fitted a new NASA wireless wind to the mast, offset on the port side. First time out in 5 to 15 knots of breeze it all worked fine. Second time out in 25 knots plus it was fine on port tack but as soon as I came onto the starboard tack the speed indication dropped off to zero and looking up I could see the vane slowly rotating in circles. Obviously caused by the unit being in the lee or updraught off the mast. I assume if I set the unit so it’s more ahead of the mast than out to one side it should be better but has anyone else experienced this?

It is usual to mount the instrumentation in front of the mast in 'clean' air.

I have a windex on the antenna that needs adjusting next time the mast is down as on the starboard tack it does impressions of 'rotary aircraft'.
