Wind turbines towers may become invisible to radar

I have come across some Qinetiq work on covering wind turbines with Radar Absorbing Material to make them less intrusive to aircraft and airfield radars, e.g. ATC..

It makes interesting reading, in that if taken to application over every wind turbine, the 'farms' could disappear off your screens.

Why not filter objects moving at less than, say, 5k. That would get rid of most turbines from ATC screens.

Blade tip speed is in the hundreds of mph, though; and what happens e.g. in Lyme Bay when you get tankers anchored waiting for the tide to change to get into Fawley ?

Good point - but a CPA alarm ought to do the trick. Unless there is a genuine danger of collision.

I'd hope that if I saw a radar plot like the one above I'd figure out what I was looking at.
