Wind farms & tidal barrages

wind turbines

i cannot see why thay dont build a causway from bradwell to mersea, and stansgate to osea island duel road on top will open up the east coast, tidal turbines would give good power 24 hours, lock gates to let boats in/out,and get rid of 300 wind turbines that are going to be an eyesore, sorry locall bitch

It's just not worth doing unless as a tourist attraction. For example, the barrage in the Rance, which has a tidal range about 3 times greater than the Blackwater area only has a year round average output of around 70 MW, which is absolute peanuts in power generation terms. It has caused silting and has affected the river ecology. I'm not particularly pro windmills, but I think this would be worse.

Yes, barrages are rubbish

Tidal turbines are the way to go.

Have a look at http://www.lunarenergy.co.uk/seaFarms.htm - a 300MW installation is planned for S Korea, with almost zero environmental impact.
