Can't believe how expensive new winches are - it's a lot of money, especially if you need a few. I know they are a big lump of metal and some reasonably precision engineering but the price seems disproportionate. There must be a way to buy them cheaper...

Where is the cheapest place to buy new (or secondhand) winches?

but you do need to know prices. I saw a very second hand winch handle there for more than the new price once.
Gibb handles wit 8 angle ends and locks I will pay twice more for than any new on market. Actually did :o

Some old kinds of winches are better then new (sorry, Lewmar ;) ) like some Gibbs made of bronze and nothing else, no ball bearings, or fly-away "ring springs". I've seen them sold for more then new alu ones in Germany - in UK probably easier to find good deal.
Good idea to shop around for proper models. Worth their weight in... bronze? :)

What size, type of winches are you looking for and how many? I may have a very good condition pair of 2 speed ones (but wihout tailers) for sale at a reasonable price.
Let me know.

Agree that new winch prices are huge. I've been lookin for a pair of se lf tailers for a while. None self tailers often come up as people up grade but STs rarely. Thanks for the extra sources.
