Simple question. Where should the self tailer guide on top of the winch be angled in relation to the direction of the genoa sheet.?

My sheets are led straight from the genoa track back to the winch. At the moment the position of the self tailing arm seems a bit random. One is inline with she sheet lead and the other is a 45 deg.

You can put them where you like. Just unscrew the top off and move it round.
We have moved ours to lay aft on the port side, and forward on the stbd side, but thats just our preferences for loading the sheet tail into the winch

Consider is the natural fall of the sheet which would normally have the sheet coming back to the winch operator in the cockpit

I believe Lewmar advise that the stripper should be positioned to allow the tail of the sheet to "self stow" somewhere (on the cockpit sole?). As already said, the arm can be positioned anywhere. The more important orientation is of the main gear such that the tension applied by the sheet improves the gear mesh. Most of us don't use the winches to anywhere near their capacity, so that is only of long term concern.
