Winch, what is it good for?

Try devising a Man Overboard /dinghy retrieval setup for your boat. Hate seeing gear going to waste.
Try remounting it aft, may be useful if ever you need to lift the inboard ,or a heavy outboard engine in/out.
The anchor suggestion may not be such a bad idea (I know it was tongue in cheek!) especially if using a lot of rope as opposed to chain, and also help break it out - with reinforcing added to the deck area (or mounted on the large centre cleat or samson post in that area.

Why not use it as designed - and as I explained somewhere near the start of this now silly thread?

The winch is for the jib halliard which is cleated off after it & left round the winch. The main is houisted by hand & tensioned by pulling down the boom in its slider on the mast.

That's just how it works on the Jouster, also a 21' Westerly, although in that case both halyards are led back to the cockpit and the single winch, for the jib, is beside the hatch.
