The trailer I have for my Motor Boat ... seller lost the winch handle and I bought a 'universal' handle online.

First the slot to fit winch was too small - so I ground that out to fit ...

Second - while using it - the handle does not clear the other 'axle' (winch body has a high speed and a low speed handle axle side by side) ...

Basically the Z in the handle is too shallow ...

Anyone have a link to a handle with a decent Z to it ?? I need about 1.5 - 2" offset ...

Can you not put it in a vice & re shape it?
If no vice to hand put it in the end of a boat trailer strut ( possibly wedge with some wood) then belt it with a club hammer.
You are not going to lose much if it b..gers it up, because it is no use now anyway

Its usabale if I angle it slightly right on end of winch shaft ... but its a pain ..

Of course I support the "Practical Boat Owner' mantle ... I'm no cheque book .. today we can say "Credit Card" boater ... so a bit of physical will be applied ....... but I reckon with todays 'metals' used - it'll probably crack.

Don't you have some mates that can weld.

To stop the rod sticking is just practice, practice and even more practice.

My Gardener does the welding I need ... but he's seriously ill now - Cancer of the Throat ... he's still working - but he will be lucky according to Doctors if he sees much of the New Year ...

I have Metal Masters I know as well ... maybe I'll have a word ...

What would be better is to have a 'socket' added to the handle instead of a slot for the winch axle .. then the handle would be moved further out
