Wimps on tour

I think your comparison of IJmuiden and Jaywick was unfair: Jaywick does not have ferries and pilot boats buzzing you at 20 kts, it doesn't have a cement works you can see from 20 miles out to sea, and the inhabitants of IJmuiden speak perfect English!

Very good:D

I asked the receiptonist if the town of Ijmuiden was nteresting. She told me to catch a bus to Haarlem!

So to complete the story....

Jim and I set off about 9a.m heading for the canals and got to Oude Wettering after the usual wait for the Sassenheim Bridge. Jim liked it because it is free to moor there.

We set off at 6.45 on Saturday, motored to Rotterdam where we stopped for 3 hours. Meal, fuel and provisions on board we left at 1900 and motored out to Hook of Holland - nearly 20 miles. If you like shipping go there

Wind on the nose so we motored all the way to Bradwell scraping our way in 3 hours and 25mins after HW at 2200 Sunday. A lumpy crossing but lovely weather. We are cream crackered. 37 hours on the go with a 3 hour stop. But the good ship Sabre is home. Well done Jim - get back to work for a rest.

P.S. I am indebted to Tillergirl for his view of the Bradwell Creek depths. For not the first time I stayed way out east of the cans and got to the final can with 0.3m under my 1.7 keel. We did however hit the putty between the posts at the marina entrance and I applied full revs and ploughed in at about 1kn with boat boat shaking! I was shaking too! Jim said "That was top entertainment" Huh.

Yep, delightful trip, and grand company.
Happy to crew for Roger, the invoice is in the post.

I must get FullCircle up there, as Mrs FC will delight in the gentleness and jostling. Putter putter putter gently between locks, then Brmmmmm, Whooosh! into the locks. Bizarre Jekyll & Hyde stuff.
Like Roger, I think I need 3 weeks minimum, probably more. And a holding tank which has just shifted up the jobs list.

And the exit from the Hoek is like the Hinder car park off Oostende, except bigger with more junctions and a platform or two with odd lighting, and no AIS signature. Wonderful conundrums all night. Downside is the lack of unrestricted water out there.

Favorite place: Rotterdam. How do they manage so much industry without any of it looking tired and worn out, even from the river view side. Remarkable.
