will it sail?

Cripes! You're right. I Googled Campari dinghy and that appeared.

Bet it sails well compared with any deflatable.

Mine is a Bluebird - completely inflatable. No solid hull, not even a solid or inflatable floor. Sails like an optimist, i.e. upwind, but slowly in all directions. Tacks normally just fine. The lee boards pivots up and down. The upwind one can be lifted for an extra 0.03 knots. They can also be adjusted slightly forward and backwards to eliminate any helm bias. Fully battened (i.e. 1) sail. Steeply angled boom to clear the helm's head. Mast is just behind the bow. Kicker and mainsheet are just pieces of cord. I'm looking for a photo of it sailing but can't find one at the moment. I still have it, but it's not with me right now.

If you are going to keep a river mooring keep your inflatable. A member of my club got a hard tender because he thought it would be less hassle. He caught a line on his outboard prop while fiddling with his mooring last winter and got dragged under by the stern in seconds. Luckily someone on the shore happened to be watching and he was rescued. The big fat backside of an inflatable would have at least given him some time to sort himself out.

Of course, what you really want is a Catapult, the inflatable sailing catamaran!

How about a single board across the width of the boat directly above the mast step

put the mast through it - extend the board over the edge of the boat with an oar shaft sized hole.

It can be held forard and aft quite simply usibng the strong points

I can raise and lower the oars into and out of the water

I can just brace the wooden steering oar against the outboard

Dylan, buy a swimming noodle and with the dinghy deflated, pass it under the floor boards, it has a remarkable effect in giving you a SRIB type inflatable keel which makes it easier to row but also easier to sail. Good luck with the rig, sounds a hoot. LK.

That is absolutely brilliant - I have a Plastimo 270 and a couple of ( I think) redundant noodles. Will have to try and bribe the children!!!
