will it jam?

For small boat - why not? Seen something similar, but on lake sailor. Question is what happens when one is caught with much too much wind for spinny. Will it tear the sail?
 
Not really that new an idea, they've been around for a while. Was considering having one on the cruising chute on the new boat - till I saw the prices! :)

Hard to see why it would be particularly jam-prone. With most of it free-flying, there isn't really anything to get jammed against. If the torque rope is turning, the sail will inevitably get wrapped round it, more or less messily. The only place where moving and non-moving parts are in close proximity is the rope drum at the bottom, and that avoids many of the usual genoa failure modes by not coiling the line round the drum, but just passing it through a thing a bit like a self-tailer. Can't remember the last time I saw a self-tailer (not the winch it's mounted on) jam.

Like anything in sailing it's possible to screw it up, of course :)

Have a AFX2500 on my First 38 since 2009..

The anti twist (torsion stiff) rope has to be tight when furling.
In the picture below the tack line has been eased to get at better set downwind.
The tack is a 1:2 purchase led to the cabin top winch.
I can do it all from the cockpit.

Methinks Dylan is secretly yearning for the speed of his early sailing and the joys of doing 2 knots from mudbank to mudbank are beginning to grow less appealing, watch developments.
With a kite flying I think the camera work will lose its priority.

Harken have been producing them for the past 20 years - theirs' don't jam
Code 0 / non structural furlers have been around for a while, think Wykeham-Martin was one of the first.

But furling asymmetric sails around a anti twist rope is rather new devlopment.

but I'd reserve my opinion on anything by Facnor

well I did fly the spinnaker on the slug

and whenever the spinnaker is up you are having a good day

I still have the spinnaker and the Halyard, and a ghoster, so who knows what the future holds
