Will I get away with it?

On my last two trips to Corfu on Easyjet I have been overweight on hold baggage. One marginally, but the other nearly 4 kilos. No charge. No weighing or checking of hand baggage other than lifting up the case which is the maximum size allowed - and should hold a windlass.

You are more likely to have problems at security with such a strange object, but don't think it is a banned item.

I tried bringing an alternator back from Nice last year. It was confiscated by security as they thought it was too heavy as a single item(could be used as a weapon) so I wouldn't risk it as hand baggage if I were you.
Also limit on baggage is 32 kg and airlines are strict on this limit

Easyjet only seem to mind if your hand baggage is too big.

If your hand baggage is heavy just leave it on the trolley, saves trying to stand upright with 20 odd kg on yer back, believe me I know!!

Security don't worry about weight, they don't know who you're flying with, or what class you're flying. They might be concerned about a big lump of metal, so it you can wrap it up and show it's not going to be a threat it might make your passage through a little smoother

No sadly. I attempted to take a replacement winch cable, well within weight from manchester some weeks ago and was refused to carry on board! In case i tied the crew up!
On a later flight from Man, i was again refused hand luggage of 2 straps for holding rib down, same reasons.
How they deal with the exec flights with 136 ties onboard ,i wonder.

Recently flew on Easyjet and they're currently promoting "unlimited weight hand baggage". I think there's some overall limit but I'm sure a winch would be OK.
