Sorry, I did post this a few minutes ago as a response to Deleted User's ferry posting but realised it would be more polite to create new post...

-------------------------------

OOOH, just heard this little snippet over the weekend... yes its is pub talk so like all good tails......

The MD of Wight Link has been sacked as the new 4m longer Yarmouth/ Lymington ferry doesn't have planning permission! Apparently it was applied for but they got turned down... but Wight Link still went ahead and bought the new larger ferries and sold the old ones.... The issue of planning strangely didn't go away and has now reared its head and claimed its first victim.. the MD.

I don't know if this is true.... but if someone knows more please tell...!!

as usual the arrogance of Sh*telink is bewildering.

Recently booked a return ferry journey ( i refuse to say service ) online. I then confirmed details on the phone as it was critical I arrived on time for a meeting.

turned up for a ferry that didn't exist !!!

the time table had been changed. when I politely asked what was happening I was told I had it wrong. I produced the printed receipt. My fault again - i should have checked !!

i told the numpty I had checked and was given the galic shrug
Needless to say I was late for my meeting
still -- no alternative so nothing we can do

The planning issue could relate to the new linkspan they want to build to dis/embark foot passengers. They say that until it is built there will be delays which are preventing them from running half hourly services.

Apparently Lymington or is it New Forest Council want to cut back the train service to the Town station so all passengers then have to walkalong the old track which they want convert to foot/cycle path to the Ferry.

As its the UK and not Europe this is more likely to be true than rumour.
