Fed up with not getting regular or consistent wifi.

I've read the threads and am now confused on n and p [?]

So, what do I need to ensure good reception of available wifi, paid or otherwise, from marina, HM or whatever?
Seems Alfa make the best value kit.

Aerial for mounting somewhere outside, connecting cable, and what goes between this and an M36 [seems to be the one to get] Should it be permanently installed and wired in? Or pop the aerial out when we are in a marina or hope to find wifi signal from the baech cafe?
Which bits, actual part numbers, do I need?

Or, do I try and boost mobile reception and use my mobile and a local data package [payg] and make my phone a wifi hotspot?
Again, what bits do I need?

In either case I'm looking for the delicate balance between price and technical performance and reliability.

Where are you sailing?

For UK buy a £15 SIM rolling one month contract plug in a mini aerial to the following

Response no. 55 shows the EBAY listings. I just bought this and it is brilliant. It will pick up Wifi at quite some distance, so publicly accessible sites can be used with ease, just need to find the password for nearby pub, shop or restaurant sites.

I believe the Alfa R36 can also use a 3G Sim Modem but haven't tried that yet. The wifi won't work on the move as it needs to fix to the chosen wifi AP - making it roam is a manual task - you choose the AP.

The aerial mounts to the Tube N booster and is approx 18" long marine quality. I am properly mounting the aerial and running in the able to the R36 today.

The R36 comes with a 240v adaptor but will run of the onboard 12-14vdc supply quite happilly.

All up about £100, and quiet kids !
