wickham martin rolling headsail system how should i hank the sail on?

Re: Stowing a Wykeham Martin headsail.

I see i have some old yaching mags from the 1800s and there i remember the chain being sugested thought a bit heavy for mine!

Im now thinking of moveing the forstay forward and mounting the WM in the place the forstay is now.
Then i will have two forestays and could hank on a large light genoa,? The new forestay would hold themast up and the sail tenion it in the origanal place

Here is a copy from a page from F.B.Cookes 1935 5th edition of "Cruising Hints" page 194/195 Showing a method of reefing with Wykeham- Martin gear. I hope it shows up good and you can read it. it took some time and a few attempts to get it to Scan and load onto Photobucket.

That's what I was about to suggest; reckon that'd be the way to go, you get the advantage of the WM and can still have light gear to play with.
