... the breaking strength of the one that fell out is zero. Just sayin'.Wichard will state their tested breaking strain and the margin of safety (often a factor of four)....do you get that reassurance with a generic hook ?
£79.82 as per #1.They're £90 in the UK!
There are several manufacturers of SS fittings in Turkey. I'm sure you can find an acceptable one for 1/10 of that price, locally.
I use Wichard for most shackles and rigging bits on my boat, but I put my foot down when I saw the latest price of their pelican hooks.
My experience is that the generic pelican hooks lose their locking pins no more often than the Wichard ones do. And I always keep a spare in my rigging box.
Not an issue on my boat. They're not for life lines, as suchWichard will state their tested breaking strain and the margin of safety (often a factor of four)....do you get that reassurance with a generic hook ?
Wichard gear is really superb quality. I love it, and have it all over my boat. I trust my life to Wichard shackles which I use to connect my best bower to the chain, and to the one I go up the mast on.Wichard will state their tested breaking strain and the margin of safety (often a factor of four)....do you get that reassurance with a generic hook ?

Can you point me towards the generic hooks to which you refer.
Do you mean a spare locking pin, and if so where can I buy one?And I always keep a spare in my rigging box.
Do you really use a shackle to attach your safety/lifting line to you to go up the mast?Wichard gear is really superb quality. I love it, and have it all over my boat. I trust my life to Wichard shackles which I use to connect my best bower to the chain, and to the one I go up the mast on.
But is it worth £80 to you to have a certified breaking strength for a -- pelican hook? This is not lifting tackle. The pelican hook is not the weak link in the lifelines.
Nothing is Paddy proofIf they're such great quality then how'd the pin fall out?
No, a spare entire Pelican hook. I've never seen the pins offered separately.Do you mean a spare locking pin, and if so where can I buy one?
I have just enough Irish blood to be allowed to laugh at that.Nothing is Paddy proof![]()
