These things are an absolutely crazy price - more than €100 here in Türkiye. I lost the locking pin from one of mine. Is it possible to find replacement pins without buying the whole shebang.

They're £90 in the UK!

There are several manufacturers of SS fittings in Turkey. I'm sure you can find an acceptable one for 1/10 of that price, locally.

I use Wichard for most shackles and rigging bits on my boat, but I put my foot down when I saw the latest price of their pelican hooks.

My experience is that the generic pelican hooks lose their locking pins no more often than the Wichard ones do. And I always keep a spare in my rigging box.

Wichard will state their tested breaking strain and the margin of safety (often a factor of four)....do you get that reassurance with a generic hook ?

£79.82 as per #1.
Can you point me towards the generic hooks to which you refer.

Wichard gear is really superb quality. I love it, and have it all over my boat. I trust my life to Wichard shackles which I use to connect my best bower to the chain, and to the one I go up the mast on.

But is it worth £80 to you to have a certified breaking strength for a -- pelican hook? This is not lifting tackle. The pelican hook is not the weak link in the lifelines.

Do you really use a shackle to attach your safety/lifting line to you to go up the mast?

There is a cheaper brand called VMG….in France they are called Crochet Pelican and you can get them mail order but obviously I don’t know about Turkey (or even how to spell it)
For example from Ad Nautic
