Why Won’t My Outboard Re-start When Hot?

.
I had the same problem with a newish 4 stroke 3.5 - didn't like to re-start when warm - especially if somewhere it was really needed - Dealer tried a lot of things but didn't help - resolved by buying an electric outboard.

Are you definitely getting the petrol through to the cylinder when it's warm?
Have you tried no choke and turning the throttle to full speed?

Q1. Now not sure. Definitely normal when cold but will check this next time (re. possible vapour lock)
Q2. I’m certain that would have been one of the combinations I tried before going totally blue in the face 😂

This used to happen with a seagull outboard.
Never did manage to resolve the problem.
Wondering if this problem is a 2 stroke thing.

That depends on the make of plug. Champion plugs are hotter the higher the number but the Tohatsu should have a NGK BP6HS-10. With NGK plugs the lower numbers are hotter, higher numbers cooler.

BP5HS-10 is one grade hotter but in outboard use a grade 6 is already a fairly hot plug .
Seems a cheap option to try.
The 2t motorbikes I had as a teen ate plugs before breakfast.
