why so many swans at Mistley

I believe they have been there for many years, I think because they used to export grain by barge and there was a lot of spillage which was attractive to swans and other birds> There are quite a lot in Ipswich docks also, perhaps for the same reason.

Further to my earlier reply, I happened to be up in Ipswich docks this morning, and counted around 40 swans.

There were 2 vessels loading what appeared to be grain alongside the quay, so no doubt some still gets spilled.

"Anyway, once upon a time the second largest herd of swans lived on the estuary, note the word herd not flock, and even in the 1950's there were about 1000 swans living here. However, now with habitat destruction and pollution their numbers are down to about 250 and would be on their way down to zero - that is EXTINCT - without the efforts of a group of people called Swan Watch who are looking after them. "

Even even better, there was a swan at Ipswich that would tap on your boat hull until you turned the pontoon water tap on for a drink, but it would always let it's cygnets drink first!!
Very sweet until the tapping got irritating.
Does anyone know the best way to cook swan?

(thought I'd better add a smiley in case her maj is reading this!)
