I've been thinking about this...and frankly, i cannot find a valid reason to give a **** about our dirt-home. I will however, bust my not inconsiderable ass to keep our floating home afloat.
Go figure.

More philosothinking;

Well I'll start a list of why it's better to be afloat than living ashore.

1. You get to move on to see interesting places.
2. You get meet to meet loads of interesting people.
3. It's cheaper than living ashore.
4. The weather is normally better than where you used to live.
5. The water is warmer, cleaner and usually clear.
6. You get to sail/motor more.
7. You keep moving on when your neighbours get on your nerves.
8. No soap operas, or stupid TV programmes to tell what you are doing wrong withyour life, or tell you it's not a safe to live, work, etc, 'cos we're all going to bombed by somebody.

Feel free to add more.

I would add to that
9. The excitement and challenge of navigating to new places in changeable weather
10. The challenge and satisfaction of fixing the constant breakages and knowing every nut and bolt on the boat
11.Every day learning something new
12 Just being a happy as it gets

That's the biggie!

13) No gardening

A couple of seasons ago we were back in the UK for part of the the summer and I was obliged to mow a lawn -Twice!- for the first time in over ten years; I can think of no better reason to live on the boat than it's 'garden': No lawn to mow, no beds to weed and a great swimming pool!

OK we've got our garden to mow, you've got your bottom to keep clean though and as for the swimming pool, there's salt in your pool whereas this year the UK is one big freshwater swimming pool.

Cheers, Brian.

Well I'll start a list of why it's better to be afloat than living ashore.

1. You get to move on to see interesting places. In a caravan
2. You get meet to meet loads of interesting people. As you do in caravans
3. It's cheaper than living ashore. Except a caravan
6. You get to sail/motor more. True
7. You keep moving on when your neighbours get on your nerves. As you do in caravans
8. No soap operas, or stupid TV programmes to tell what you are doing wrong with your life, or tell you it's not a safe to live, work, etc, 'cos we're all going to bombed by somebody. As per caravans

Feel free to add more.

I have taken the liberty of adding my comments within your quote.
I think what we are talking about is a nomadic existence that can also be had on a narrowboat.

You could add, no letterbox.

Reverend

IMHO You have completely and splendidly missed the point......which can also be done in a caravan :)
+1 in spades (is that OK now?)

You can move on or fuster, real life afloat is about liberation, and leaving the consumer world behind. Or live on a a 60ft Mobo in Cannes (might not be so bad..)
