Why is YBW Forum's picture uploader so hostile & difficult to use?

Visited Shingle Street today & took a few photos of the Ore entrance -beautiful, sunny (but cold) day.

Haven Buoy and the knolls clearly visible.

Tried to upload the pictures, but all I get is'Picture is too large'. What?? They're taken with a bog standard, vanilla, simple, basic, common-as- muck, ordinary, no frills, not expensive, family Canon snapper? How effin' "small" do the pictures have to be, & what sort of kit will take such basic pictures now? Grrrr:mad-new:

The forum is designed by people who never use forums! Try using Photobucket instead - free, quick, has editing facilities. Then upload the file name here in between
codes.

well I agree with the OP and I've never been able to post pictures. I can't even get it work when I use photobucket. I think that some of my problem may be that I only use this when I'm at work and I think my work restricts certain things!

For occasional use uploading pictures as attachments is quite simple. IMHO simpler than via Photobucket but less attractive for the heavy user due to the limited space available for storage of uploaded pictures

Lets see what happens if I try to load a 1,349KB image from my camera SD card ( which is bigger than the space I have available)

It seems to load as an 89.6 KB image which hopefully will be accessible from the thumbnail which should appear in my post.

Fingers crossed

Well that sees to have worked Ok and very easily but I dont understand how the resizing worked or what determines the size of the uploaded picture

Gotta agree that Photobucket is equally as hostile and uncommunicative as the Forum S/W.

Just wasted an hour trying to move one photo one space to the left using the 'sort manually' option. Sure, it drags & drops, then when you click the 'Done' button, the 'Sorting' progress bar comes up and stays and stays (repeat ad infinitum) and does nothing.

What a steaming pile! If my software company wrote stuff like this it would have gone out of business in short order.

You might like to try Imgur, in that case.

Another member here complained that its frontpage is full of dank memes, and I do concede his point - I never use the functions of Imgur which make images "public" so that members of the Imgur "community" (teenage boys, for the most part, I think) and comment on them.

There are, however, some things I like about Imgur - you don't need to open an account to upload images, you can use a bookmarklet to rehost images you find on the web, and they allow you to fully hotlink.

If you are a computer guy you can upload to Imgur from the command line - not sure about on Windows, but Bart's uploader on the Imgur tools page works with Linux and, with a couple of minor changes, on Mac, too.

Works for me. Nothing appears to be wrong with the PB software.

This is called "hotlinking" - you're dependent on that image still being at the same URL on gcaptain's site when your readers come to view it.

The site owner can also configure their webserver to display a different image, depending on which site is displaying it (this is based on the "referrer" part of the http request).

Yes yes, but it works

well, I still don't get it. Everytime I try to upload a photo using the 'inert an image' I get the same message. "exceeds your quota". I've tried compressing photos, saving them in different formats, and I still can't get it to work.
